IDF kills Two on St.Nuclear-Truth-Day

St.Nuclear-Truth-Day: Ich erinnere, 31.07.2007: "On the first day of her Middle East tour, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Tuesday signed a joint statement with Egypt, Jordan and six Persian Gulf states, endorsing the 2002 Arab peace initiative as one of the foundations for Middle East peace. [Vollständiger Rückzug auf die 67-Linie.] Und: The statement indirectly calls on Israel to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, saying it was important to make the treaty universal for all countries." Heute: "A 144-nation atomic energy conference criticized Israel Thursday for refusing to put its nuclear program under international purview, with the United States alone in supporting the Jewish state. Besides Washington, only Israel voted against the resolution while 53 nations backed it and 47 abstained. Up to last year, the resolution on Application of IAEA Safeguards in the Middle East had been adopted by consensus, but in 2006, and again this year, Israeli objections forced a vote. This year, Israel opposed two paragraphs - one calling all nations in the Middle East not to develop, test or otherwise acquire nuclear weapons, the other urging nuclear weapons states to refrain from any action hindering the establishment of a Mideast zone free of nuclear weapons. Both passages were clearly aimed at Israel, which is considered to have nuclear weapons despite its no tell policy on the issue and which counts on the United States as its chief ally for support - both in the outside world and in forums such as the conference. Israeli opposition last year was sparked by a separate Arab-sponsored resolution deeming Israel a nuclear threat and refusal by its sponsors to withdraw it. While that resolution was put up for adoption it was not voted on. A similar resolution was being prepared for consideration at the gathering Friday. A Western diplomat whose country normally is supportive of Israel sought to diminish the negative impact of the vote, pointing out that last year, 98 approved the resolution, with three abstaining and the United States and Israel opposed. Still, although the conference has no decision-making powers, the lack of consensus reflected deepening tensions in the Middle East.

Israel's decision won't weaken Hamas, say Gaza residents. Gazans stock up after Israel decides on sanctions.

Then read: Espionage ships and aircraft have been causing disturbances in satellite company Yes' broadcasts, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported Thursday. "The disturbances began on September 6, on the day Damascus announced that IAF aircraft flew in its territory," an Israeli expert said on Wednesday. "Everyone wants to know what is happening, and this is the result," he said. Investigations carried out by Yes satellite experts revealed that the disturbances, which caused the images on the screen to freeze, were caused by radar transmissions. "There is a jungle of powerful transmissions out there," said one of the experts, who claimed that ships cruising in the eastern Mediterranean Sea and spy planes flying over Israel have been transmitting on all kinds of frequencies – even those that are allotted to TV broadcasts according to international treaties. Yes has appealed to UNIFIL and the German and Dutch embassies, who own the ships, in an attempt to resolve the problem and live in "electromagnetic coexistence". Espionage ships and aircraft operate passive sensors that pick up electronic signals from military systems and identify their type and location. These sensors cause no disturbance, but are equipped with powerful radar systems that are used to uncover aerial and ground movement in a certain region. On Wednesday it was speculated that the disturbances were caused by Syrian espionage activities on northern Israel using Russian experts.
