Abbas vs Olmert Summary

Miri Eisin: "We're trying to bring about the practical steps that will lead to a two-state solution." Was? A Channel Two commentator said that Abbas did not even mention Gaza Strip and seemed to see his constituency as West Bank Palestinians only. Der andere da hat andere Probleme: "State Prosecutor Eran Shendar confirmed Monday that he has recommended that Attorney General Menachem Mazuz launch new criminal investigations into Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on two separate affairs. In an interview with Israel Radio, Shendar added that he expects Mazuz to decide on the matter soon. The prime minister is currently under investigation for his role in the sale of the state's controlling interest in Bank Leumi, and is expected to be questioned under caution in the matter in the near future. The first affair involves allegations that Olmert helped grant illicit benefits to a silicate company represented by his former law partner, Uri Messer, while serving as the minister of industry, trade, and labor. The matter involved projects handled by the Industry, Trade, and Labor Ministry's Investment Center. The second affair involves political appointments made by the prime minister in the Small Business Authority, also during his term as industry, trade, and labor minister." Wie passend: Border Police officer sentenced to 20 months in jail for Hebron robberies.

"Israeli police and military forces systematically arrest, beat, and detain Palestinian children without formally charging them, according to a new report by the advocacy group Defense for Children International (DCI). The group's semiannual report said that at any given time between January and July 2007, between 382 and 416 Palestinian children were held in Israeli prisons and detention centers. More than half of these received prison sentences of up to a year." Hier ein Artikel über den report: Palestinian child political prisoners: Semi Annual Report 2007 +++++ "According to data gathered in 2006, Israel's population on the eve of Rosh Hashana 5767 stands at 7.2 million and exhibited a relatively low growth rate of 1.8 percent, a Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) report revealed Monday." +++++ Israeli settlements in Hebron make life nearly impossible, Palestinians say +++++ The Israeli ambassador, Miryam Shomrat, is angry that Norway's embassy in Tel Aviv sent a report home to the foreign ministry in Oslo asking officials there to take up the issue of alleged torture of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons. +++++ Hamas arrests collaborators after Rafah-kidnapping +++++ Defying Hamas, scores of schools and shops closed their doors in Gaza on Sunday, observing a Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)-called strike to protest violence by the ruling Islamist movement.
