Hirchsohn tried, Olmert probed [again]

Attorney General Menahem Mazuz decided Monday that former finance minister MK Avraham Hirchson will stand trial for fraud, theft, falsifying corporate documents, breach of trust and money laundering. Due to the nature of the offences, the indictment is pending a hearing that Mazuz's office will hold for Hirschson. A special investigation team that was comprised of police and tax authorities, announced at the beginning of the month that it had amassed sufficient evidence that Hirchson had embezzled moneys from the NILI fund and the National Workers' Organization (NOW). The evidence shows that the former finance minister stole millions of shekels over the years he served as chairman of the NWO and afterwards as well. The investigative team also amassed sufficient evidence to indict additional officials in the NOW and NILI. Menachem Mazuz instructed police Monday to open a criminal investigation against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert over allegations that he benefited unduly from his purchase of a home on Jerusalem's Cremieux Street. Olmert is suspected of having received an unreasonably low price on the house, allegedly as a result of his position in government. The Prime Minister's Bureau issued a statement in response, saying "We are certain and convinced that the Olmert family's purchase of the Cremieux Street home was clean and pure." "We find the decision to continue the investigation unfortunate, because it is unnecessary," continued the statement.

Von "operate" keine Spur mehr: "The spirit of Israel must be prepared at every moment as if the next war is around the corner." ["What is reassuring is that the Syrians have not yet responded to the alleged strike, which hopefully means that they will continue to demonstrate restraint." -official] flirtet Miri Eisin mit den Syrern ["We have no problem with whomever the United States decides to include at the international meeting.", die Syrer aber nicht mit Eisin ["The September 6 air strike on a Syrian nuclear facility has destroyed any chances for peace between Syria and Israel, senior Syrian officials said Monday."].
