Six Hamas militants killed in IDF strike

Six Hamas militants were killed and one other wounded Monday in an Israel Defense Forces strike on a car traveling in the central Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials said. The IDF confirmed the strike, saying ground forces fired on a car carrying Hamas militants involved in firing mortar shells at Israeli targets near the Gaza security fence on Sunday. In addition, the army said the militants were involved in Qassam rocket fire at the western Negev earlier in the day. The car was leaving a Hamas military installation when it was targeted by Israeli aircraft, killing six people, according to Dr. Muawiya Hassanin of the Palestinian Health Ministry. Hamas officials identified the six as Hamas militants. One of the dead was named as local Hamas commander Mohammed abu Arab [Muhammad Ibrahem Al Krenawy]. Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli fighter jets launched four rockets at a car driven my members of Hamas' Qassam Brigades, two of whom work with the Executive Force, also of Hamas. At the time of the attack, the car was driving near the Makbolah, a Palestinian military base, east of Al Bureij refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip. [Haaretz/Maan]
