Unterwäsche-Terrorismus - IDF kills One

Anti-nuclear activists stripped to their underclothes at a nuclear arms conference at Tel Aviv University Thursday as President Shimon Peres entered to deliver a speech. Members of the Greenpeace international environmental organization who were sitting in the audience suddenly pulled off their shirts and pants to stand in bras and underwear when Peres walked into the lecture hall. Ein etwas besseres Bild findet sich hier.

Attack on Syria, Part XXXXI: The Israel Air Force hit a Syrian radar post near the country's northern border with Turkey on September 6, knocking out Syria's entire radar system as a prelude to striking a suspected nuclear reactor, Aviation Week & Space Technology is reporting in its November 26 edition. The radar site was hit with a combination of electronic attack and precision bombs to allow the IAF to enter and exit Syrian airspace unobserved, the report said. Subsequently all of Syria's air-defense radar system went off the air for a period of time that encompassed the raid, U.S. intelligence analysts told Aviation Week. According to the report, the United States provided Israel with information about Syrian air defenses as Israel carried out the strike. In my estimation this was something very nasty and vicious, and even more dangerous than a reactor," says Even. "I have no information, only an assessment, but I suspect that it was a plant for processing plutonium, namely a factory for assembling the bomb." In other words, Syria already had several kilograms of plutonium, and it was involved in building a bomb factory (the assembling of one bomb requires about four kilograms of fissionable material). -That may also be the reason they refused to allow IAEA inspectors to visit the site and take samples of the earth, which would give away their secret.- Das ist schlicht albern.

Polling-Time and the winner is Netanjahu: If elections were held today, opposition leader and Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu would become Israel's next Prime Minister. According to a Shavakim Panorama poll conducted for Israel Radio and published on Thursday, Netanyahu's Likud Party would garner 31 mandates if he were running against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Kadima (13) and Defense Minsiter Ehud Barak of Labor (20). Netanyahu would also win if Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni headed Kadima's ticket, but would only win 28 mandates to Kadima's 21, while a Barak-led Labor would fall to 18 Knesset seats. More significantly, the poll indicates a clear deterioration in Barak's standing, marking the first time he has fallen behind Livni and Netanyahu at the same time. Under both scenarios - either a Livni or Olmert-led Kadima - Shas would manage 10 seats, while Israel Beiteinu would receive eight mandates. Auch aus den Reihen der IDF wird in einem eher unüblichen Vorgang der Chef kritisiert: Defense Minister Ehud Barak's decision to implement a list of sanctions against the Gaza Strip - including periodic electricity blackouts and cuts to fuel supplies - has not achieved the desired effect, a senior IDF officer has told the Jerusalem Post. According to the officer, Kassams are still being fired at southern Israel while people in Gaza are still driving. "There hasn't been a single complaint from the Palestinians," he noted.

Der Annapolis-Prozeß hinkt sich zur Ziellinie: Hamas' Gaza leader Ismail Haniyeh said Thursday that next week's U.S.-sponsored Middle East peace conference is stillborn and will achieve nothing for the Palestinians, as the London-based Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported that Syria has already decided not to attend the Annapolis, Maryland summit. Zwei Maan-Kommentare: Khalid Amayreh, "The Annapolis Illusion" und Walid M. Awad, "An Annapolis failure should not be an option"

In Nablus sorgt ein Milizenführer für Aufregung: A prominent leader from the Al-Aqsa Brigades, the military wing of Fatah, told Ma'an's reporter on Thursday that he refused to meet with the US Security Advisor General Keith Dayton to discuss the issue of Palestinians in Nablus, who are 'wanted' by Israel. Mahdi Abu Ghazala, who is himself on Israel's 'wanted' list, said he refused to meet Dayton out of respect to the Palestinian Authority as he considers it their responsibility to negotiate the matter with the Israelis. Kritische Geschichte, allemal.
