IDF kills Three - PA kills One

[Bsp: "to confront terrorism and incitement, whether committed by Palestinians or Israelis."

Kommentare: Steve Erlanger, "A large shadow by an absent country": The Middle East peace conference here on Tuesday was officially about ending the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. But there was an unspoken goal just below the surface: stopping the rising regional influence of Iran and Islamic radicalism. That is why, despite enormous skepticism about the ability of the Israelis and Palestinians to reach a final peace treaty, there is enormous relief among the many Sunni Arab countries in attendance that the United States has re-engaged in what they see as the larger and more important battle for Muslim hearts and minds. “The Arabs have come here not because they love the Jews or even the Palestinians,” said an adviser to the Palestinian negotiating team who spoke on condition of anonymity. “They came because they need a strategic alliance with the United States against Iran.” Mohammed Bazzi, "THe real goal at Annapolis": This week's Mideast summit in Annapolis, Md., is bound to fail – unless the Bush administration makes sure that the gathering leads to renewed Israeli-Syrian peace negotiations. Die Opposition: Representatives from Orthodox Jewish organizations and Christian organizations met with President Bush's National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley along with other senior White House officials Monday, and raised concerns regarding the diplomatic meetings in Annapolis. +++ The heads of three major evangelical Christian organizations based in Jerusalem on Tuesday criticized the proposed division of Jerusalem as part of a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians, saying such a move would severely restrict freedom of worship in the holy city. +++ Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's coalition partners on the Right - Israel Beiteinu and Shas - urged him on Tuesday to return from the peace talks in Annapolis straight to military moves in the Gaza Strip. Israel Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman and Shas chairman Eli Yishai said they would remain in the government until actual concessions are implemented, downplaying Olmert's pledges to make painful compromises after negotiations which will begin next month. But they made clear that to keep them satisfied, Olmert must act immediately to stop rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. +++ Herb Keinon, "The importance of what is, and what is not said" +++ Toameh, "Abbas won't be able to impose any deal on Gaza" +++ David Horovitz, "With the world watching Abbas is flying high"

Lebanon rejects the permanent resettlement of Palestinian refugees on its territory. [Tja, Bush. In Minnesota ist bestimmt noch Platz.]

Opposition leader MP Michel Aoun held a series of meetings on Tuesday with other Christian political figures that focused on the political vacuum days after Parliament failed to elect a new president. Parliament is now scheduled to convene Friday, and the meetings of Aoun, head of the Free Patriotic Movement, which started on Monday and are expected to continue all week, are designed to find a way out of the crisis. But little so far indicates that a successor to former President Emile Lahoud is going to be elected amid continued deadlock between the Western-backed ruling coalition and the Hizbullah-led opposition, supported by Syria and Iran.

The United States on Tuesday called on Israel to fully implement an agreement allowing Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances to move freely in Palestinian territory and through Israeli checkpoints.

Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch
told the Knesset Committee on the Status of Women on Tuesday that "we live in a society swarmed with harrowing violence, in which a person cannot feel secure in his own home." Beinisch spoke at a session marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In a message delivered Tuesday to members of the British Parliament in the UK daily the Independent, John Jeng, Director of operations for UNRWA, called on members of the British Parliament to "use their influence to bring an end to the sanctions imposed on the Gaza Strip." ... The Director added that the sanctions were doomed to fail in their stated objective, adding that UNRWA did not have sufficient food supplies to cover the 200,000 Palestinian children who attend UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip.
