IDF kills Two

Ein Nachbericht zu dem erwähnten lustigen Generäle-Schiessen: Palestinian militants yesterday fired mortar shells at a group of top Israel Defense Forces officers - including GOC Southern Command Yoav Galant and Gaza Division commander Brigadier General Moshe Tamir - who were taking local authority heads from the South and the security officers of various organizations on a tour of the fence near the Gaza border. [...] "A deal to secure the release of captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit will be reached soon", PA Deputy Prisoner Affairs Minister Ziad Abu Ein said Tuesday. Ein told the Palestinian news agency Ma'an that credible sources had informed him that a prisoner swap would likely take place in the near future, in which Hamas would release Schalit in exchange for Israel's release of Hamas parliamentarians and Palestinian municipality heads who were arrested after Schalit's capture.

In der Westbank wird die Lage vom dummen Geschwäzt eines gewissen Herrn C. überlagert: Yasser Arafat fought for the advancement of the Palestinians and other just causes in the world, former US president Jimmy Carter said after laying a wreath Tuesday on the grave of the deceased Palestinian Authority chairman in Ramallah. [and others??? The source said that members of Hamas in Gaza were taking advantage of the tensions between the PA and Fatah gunmen in Nablus. Hamas is financing, arming and encouraging the rebellious Fatah group to continue to confront the PA, he said.

Aussenpolitik: The American administration intends to give the Senate Intelligence Committee an account of the nuclear ties between North Korea and Syria for the first time on April 22. Senior IDF officers have warned, however, that the release of any information containing details of the Israeli Air Force strike in Syria last September could increase tension between Israel and Syria. ... Lebanon's top Shiite Muslim cleric sharply criticized Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni's visit to Qatar and said Tuesday that her comments about Hezbollah and Hamas reflect brazenness and arrogance on the part of Israel. ... In a new round in the war of words between Jerusalem and Tehran, the Iranian army's deputy chief threatened Tuesday to respond to any military attack from Israel by 'eliminating' it. [Apropos war of words. Keine Ahnung von was der Mann da redet. 800 000 Aufrufe? in 24 Stunden?] The Arrow anti-ballistic missile system successfully simulated an interception of a rocket designed to mimic the Iranian Shihab missile on Tuesday. This was the first successful test involving a Blue Sparrow missile, manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The missile is a newer version of the Black Sparrow, which was built to resemble the ground-to-ground Scud A and B missiles.

Gad Lior, "Ministers of nothing - Israel has more useless ministerial posts than any other democratic country" [...] Israel's water demand will hugely outweigh supply during 2008
