IDF kills Two

Bei einem Vorfall in Beit Hanoun werden durch israelisches Artilleriefeuer nach palästinensischen Angaben zwei Zivilisten bei einem Treffer in ein Wohnhaus getötet. Vier weitere Personen werden verletzt. Das Erscheinungsbild der Nachrichten ist mal wieder sehr unterschiedlich. Die IDF möchte bei dem Vorfall heute Morgen einen George-Bush-Gedächtnis Preemtive Strike [IDF troops shot a missile toward militants preparing to shoot a rocket] durchgeführt haben bei dem ein Kämpfer des Islamic Jihad getötet wurde. Sämtliche Bekennerschreiben die veröffentlich werden stammen jedoch von den Popular Resistance Comittees und verlegen die Attacke nach zeitlich hinten [launched six homemade projectiles at the Israeli town Sderot before the three Israeli missiles hit the rocket squad]. Bein Zweiten Vorfall [Schreibfehler ist orginal] wird der Ort verlagert und die IDF spricht nur von einem Toten [IDF forced fired a missile at militants seconds after they launched a rocket from near Beit Hanun]. Der Tod der Zivilistin in einem Haus wird derzeit nicht kommentiert. Noch besser wirds im ersten Fall wenn man ein zweites Statement der IDF versucht einzuordnen: "Confirmed that its ground troops had fired at the cell responsible for firing five of the [12 on wendsday] mortar shells."

Na also, da sind sie doch [von Tausenden aber keine Spur. Sehr schwach.]: Israeli Arab party representatives joined left-wing protests around the country to demonstrate on Wednesday against U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to Israel and the West Bank. ... Several hundred Hadash activists participated in an anti-Bush demonstration in front of the American Consulate in West Jerusalem. They reached the site by foot due to the checkpoints and massive streets closures in the city, designed to facilitate the movement of Bush's convoy. Hadash Chairman Mohammed Barakeh said during the demonstration that "Bush totally and blindly adopts Israel's most extreme positions and prevents progress toward a final-status agreement. Without international pressure on the government of Israel, there won't be progress in the peace process." Balad party members also protested the visit at universities in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem, and in Nazareth and Umm al-Fahm. Faction head Jamal Zahalka said in an a press announcement that "the 'Israelified' American position is becoming a vague echo of Israeli policy." [Über den Bush-Besuch liest man das. Oder man läßts bleiben. Sowieso nur irrelevant.] Immerhin. Ich dachte sie seien verschwunden! Aber es gibt sie noch: Eine israelische Kommunistin! Wichtiger als der Besuch selbst ist das was abseits passiert: Raising pressure on Tehran, the United States on Wednesday slapped sanctions on a general from the country's elite Qods force and three Iraqis living in exile in Syria and Iran for fomenting violence in Iraq. Die verschiedenen Machtblöcke haben sich nach dem Abzug der Syrer aus dem Libanon und dem Krieg Libanon vs Israel erholt und stabilisiert, wenn man von der Präsidialfrage im Libanon absieht, die allerdings Chancen hat bald doch gelöst zu werden. Insofern ist an der Nordgrenze Israels einiges denkbar und Syrien wäre blöd, wenn es sich nicht konstruktiv beteiligen würde. Nach der Schlappe die Bush in Pakistan erlitten hat und den ungelösten Problemen zwischen Israel und Pakistan [räumlich] wäre eigentlich die Zeit gekommen sich von dem letzten beständigen Bush-Projekt "Israel-Libanon" rhetorisch abzukoppeln. Ich nenne mal ein Beispiel: Es wird gemunkelt das die alte Theorie des "power-sharings" zwischen dem Libanon und Israel in Bautätigkeiten einen ersichtlichen Frühling erlebt. Damit ist gemeint das Israel das Wasser bis zum Litani für den Libanon erschließt und sich einen Löwenanteil abzweigt, aber im Gegenzug den Libanesen sehr kostengünstigen Strom liefert. Da soetwas technisch am einfachsten über die umstrittenen Golan-Höhen realisierbar ist gibt es nun für Assad zwei Wege. Entweder er beteiligt sich und erhält einen gewissen Preis zurück, wofür er aber auf den Teil der Golanhöhen verzichten muß, den Israel benötigt [nur unter Frieden möglich]. Oder er verweigert sich und bekommt gar nichts: Kein Geld, keinen strom und schon gar keinen Golan. Geht iÜ ganz ohne Bush. Zurück zum Thema: The Israeli Government told the High Court of Justice Tuesday that the situation in Gaza is being monitored, as tightened fuel sanctions take effect in the totally isolated and densely populated coastal strip. It is not clear exactly how this is being done, however. The state attorney also told the court that the impact of the fuel cuts in Gaza had been discussed at a meeting in the Israeli Ministry of Defense on Tuesday – and that the Defense Minister would be making a decision soon, according to Sari Bashi, Executive Director of GISHA, who has been playing a leading role in the effort by a group of ten Israeli and Palestinian human rights organizations to persuade the court to block the cuts. Haaretz: For the first time since the Hamas takeover, three Arab Israeli doctors from the rights group "Physicians for Human Rights" entered Gaza Wednesday in order to administer medical treatment to Gazan residents. The doctors brought with them medical supplies and medications. The doctors decided on the visit after a number of requests were sent regarding the lack of medical supplies and services in Gaza. The three doctors entered via the Erez Crossing and were escorted to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. They are expected to return to Israel on Wednesday evening.
