IDF kills Two - Updates

Während einer Verhaftungsaktion in Tulkarem in der Westbank wird ein Mitglied des Islamic Jihad der sich der Verhaftung widersetzte durch IDF-Milizen erschossen. Ein als "commander" des Bataillions bezeichneter Israeli wird dabei angeschossen [wohl ein Leutnantsrang] - [Die Gliederung der offiziellen Infantriebatallione der Israelis in der Westbank: Nachshon = Tulkarem; Samson = Bethlehem; Haruv = Nablus; Duchifat = Ramallah; Lavi = Herbon; Netzah Yehuda = Jordantal. Die gesamte Brigade nennt sich Kfir.] Im Gazastreifenstreifen verstirbt ein Mitglied der Al-Mujahidin Brigaden [Fatah] im Krankenhaus an bei einem Luftangriff vom letzten Dienstag erlittenen Verletzungen. Während an der Gazafront keinerlei Bewegung gemeldet wird verhaften israelische Truppen in der Westbank sechs Palästinenser, darunter einen Mitarbeiter des Gouverneurs von Bethlehem. [Eben wird die erste Qassam des Tages gemeldet. Zudem ein Zwischenfall an der libanesischen Grenze: Kampfflugzeude der IAF verletzen den libanesischen Luftraum und werden durch regüläre libanesische Truppen beschossen.]

Weiterhin im sprichwörtlich Dunkeln liegt die Versorgungslage im Gazastreifen. Horrormeldungen wechseln sich mit politischen Aufrufen zur Beendigung der Blockade ab. Gegenseitige Schuldzuweisungen und teilweise absurdes Gequatsche geben sich die Klinke in die Hand. Mittlerweile wird spekuliert das im Gazastreifen ab Mittwoch auch die Nahrungsversorgung zusammen brechen wird. Die Schätzungen über vom Stromausfall betroffene Haushalte schwanken zwischen 400 000 und 800 000 Personen. Hinzu kommt das keinerlei Benzinreserven vorhanden sind. In der Folge verlinke ich einige ausgesuchte Berichte.
Die Hamas-Regierung im palästinensischen Gazastreifen hat bittere Klagen gegen die verschärfte israelische Blockade erhoben. Das lokale Elektrizitätswerk sah sich gezwungen, wegen des erschöpften Treibstoffvorrats die Stromproduktion vollständig einzustellen. ++++ Kein Strom in Gaza-Stadt - Hamas hat das einzige Kraftwerk des Gazastreifens abgeschaltet. Grund sei, dass Israel keinen Treibstoff mehr liefere. Israel spricht von einer vorgetäuschten Krise.Nach der Abriegelung des Gazastreifens durch Israel am Freitag hat die dort regierende Hamas das einzige Elektrizitätswerk in dem Autonomiegebiet abgeschaltet. Sie begründet dies mit mangelnden Treibstofflieferungen aus Israel. Nach Angaben der Energiebehörde sind etwa zwei Drittel der 1,5 Millionen Einwohner des Gazastreifens betroffen. Die Hauptstadt Gaza mit 400.000 Einwohnern sowie die Flüchtlingslager im Süden lagen am Sonntagabend im Dunkeln. ++++ Israeli security officials said Sunday night that the electrical supply difficulties in the Gaza Strip were greater than Israel had previously expected when it cut off fuel to the coastal territory earlier in the day. ++++ Im Gazastreifen wurde das einzige Kraftwerk ausgeschaltet - angeblich, weil israelische Blockade den Kraftstoffnachschub verhindert. Israel launched early Monday a sophisticated new spy satellite, designated TECSAR, which could boost intelligence gathering capabilities regarding Iran. The satellite was sent into orbit from the Sriharikota Launching Range in India, using an Indian rocket. The TECSAR, manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has the ability to use radar to identify targets even under adverse weather conditions including dense clouds. As such, it differs from Israel's Ofek series of reconnaissance satellites, which rely on cameras. Kommentar.

Miftah-statement: MIFTAH, the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy expresses its grave concern for the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly after Israeli authorities completely banned basic fuel and food supplies from entering the Strip. Gaza’s main power plant shut down on January 20 due to the lack of fuel, plunging the overwhelming majority of the Strip into darkness. The Gaza Strip, which has been suffering from the blockade imposed by Israel since last June, is now facing an escalating humanitarian crisis. There is a severe shortage of medical and food supplies, hospital generators have shut down and basic necessities are extremely scarce. MIFTAH views this newest Israeli punitive measure with much concern and alarm, given that an entire civilian population is being punished in order for Israel to forward its own political agenda. MIFTAH calls on Israel to immediately reverse these punitive measures in line with its obligations towards international humanitarian law. MIFTAH also calls on all voices of conscience worldwide to protest this cruel and inhumane collective punishment and demand that Israel reopen the borders to allow fuel and basic supplies into the Strip. The blackout in Gaza comes on the heels of Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Strip, which have claimed close to 40 lives in the past week. MIFTAH reiterates its demand that Israel adhere to its obligations as an occupying power to safeguard the lives of its occupied citizens, an obligation which it often disregards. It is the responsibility of the international community, particularly those who have assumed roles in mediating a settlement to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, to step in and force Israel to lift the siege off of Gaza.
